Remembering not to forget your attachments.

If you forget to attach a file to an email but include the word "attach" or "attachment" in the actual email, then the all-powerful GOOGLE will remind you that you have forgotten. Eerie, but helpful!

Email Signatures

All users of BISP should add a signature to their school accounts (@bisphuket.ac.th) in the following format:

Line 1*: preferred sign off followed by a blank line
Line 2 (normal font): User's  full name, where appropriate a nickname may be included in brackets.
Line 3 (italic font): User's job title, where appropriate an extension number may be added in brackets.

*Users are welcome to use a sign off of their choice e.g. best regards, yours sincerely,...

Example:

Best regards,

Nigel Wheeler
ICT Director

It is important that italics are used in the second line, to ensure this it is best to copy and paste the text into  the signature space.

Note: The school footer information is then added to ALL emails sent to external email addresses. This does not appear on the copy stored in sent.

Changing Language in Gmail

Google Language Settings

If you open your Gmail (or school email) and the language is in Thai, you will need to change the language settings for your account to English. This is a simple procedure, but a challenge for non-Thai speakers as all the menus will be in Thai.

Language is a user controlled setting, the video below shows you how to change the setting:

  1. Click on your Avatar or picture in the top right corner
  2. Click on the left hand link under your email address (to go to account)
  3. Select the third tab (language settings)
  4. Change the top box to English
  5. Click in the pop-up to reload
  6. Screen should now be in English and you can select the appropriate regional variant of English.
  7. At this point I recommend you log out of Google and restart your browser to check that the setting has fully changed.
The video (which has no sound) below shows those steps

Alternative approach follow these instructions from Google https://support.google.com/mail/answer/69784?hl=en

Create a booklet using preview

Create Booklet adds an export command that converts documents into PDF format for printing as a booklet with staples down the middle. This means the pages have to be resorted before printing and two pages have to be shrunk onto one. Create Booklet does that for you and as it is a PDF Service you can do it directly from the print panel. Additionally you get the Automator Action that is used in that PDF Service.

  • Students enjoy blogging
  • Blogging enhances literacy skills
  • It gets students engaged and boost their motivation

  • It keeps parents updated about their kids progress
  • It enhances home-school links
  • It gives students a genuine and potentially worldwide audience for their work.
  • Blogging gives students ownership over their own learning and an authentic voice allowing them to articulate their needs and inform their learning.
  • It contributes to identity-formation in students
  • Blogging  helps teachers develop professionally
  • It fosters the development of writing and research skills as well as digital skills.

Great site to support Grammar

A site that allows English teachers to flip their grammar instruction. Rather than marking papers with common writing errors, teachers can now give them a link to a page that has a video that teaches students to identify and resolve the error. Students may also take a short quiz on the topic to earn a badge. The site will continue to grow throughout the year.
